Soaring to New Heights in Nevada Skies
Each year, Pathways to Aviation hosts a signature event centered on a specific aviation topic. Made possible through the generous support of the Gillemot Foundation, the University of Nevada, Reno, and community sponsors and partners, this annual gathering brings students and industry together with a shared goal: building a strong, skilled, and diverse aviation workforce for the future.
Our annual theme changes from year to year, allowing us to spotlight different corners of aviation and aerospace. Topics may include well-known career paths such as aircraft maintenance, engineering, flight operations, and aviation management, as well as fascinating but lesser-known areas like gliding and other specialized fields. By rotating our focus, we introduce students to the incredible range of opportunities available—many of which they may not have realized existed.
These events feature engaging industry speakers, interactive sessions, and plenty of time for questions and conversation. Students have the chance to hear firsthand what a career in aviation looks like day to day, learn about required education or training, and discover steps they can take right now to prepare. Just as importantly, our annual event creates meaningful connections—linking students with mentors, role models, and a supportive community invested in their success.
Workshops and Educational Sessions
In addition to our annual event, Pathways to Aviation offers smaller workshops throughout the year.
These sessions are designed to be hands-on, approachable, and focused on practical career exploration. Workshop topics may include introductions to specific aviation careers, guidance on technical education and certifications, resume and interview tips, and navigating scholarships and financial aid.
Workshops allow for deeper, more personal interaction, giving students the opportunity to ask questions, explore their interests, and gain tailored guidance. They also bring aviation professionals into the room, offering real-world stories and insights that help students see how today’s learning connects to tomorrow’s careers.
Removing Barriers Through Access and Education
Across every event we host, our mission remains the same: to expand awareness of aviation careers and remove financial and informational barriers that can hold students back. By offering free or low-cost events, access to industry professionals, and clear guidance on next steps, Pathways to Aviation helps students build confidence, direction, and momentum toward their goals.
