WCSD Aviation Program

WCSD Creates a Pathway to Aviation with AACT

Pathways to Aviation is thrilled to partner with and support Northern Nevada’s first and only aviation school, located within Washoe County School District’s (WCSD) Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology (AACT).

This innovative, four-year aviation program represents an exciting step forward for aviation education in our region, offering students early exposure to an industry filled with opportunity, technology, and long-term career potential. By embedding aviation education within a public school setting, AACT is opening doors for students who may not otherwise have access to this specialized field.

The Aviation Program at AACT

The aviation program at AACT is designed to provide students with meaningful, hands-on experiences that go far beyond traditional classroom learning.

Students will explore a wide range of aviation-related subjects, gaining foundational knowledge while also developing practical skills that translate directly to real-world applications. One of the most exciting aspects of the program is that it enables students to graduate with their commercial drone pilot license, giving them an industry-recognized credential and a head start on future education or employment opportunities.

This brand-new aviation program is made possible through the generous support of our partners at the George W. Gillemot Foundation. Their commitment to workforce development and education aligns closely with Pathways to Aviation’s mission to build a strong, skilled aviation workforce in Northern Nevada. Together, we share a common goal of preparing students for high-demand aviation careers while strengthening the region’s aviation and aerospace ecosystem for years to come.

How Pathways Supports AACT Students and Beyond

At Pathways to Aviation, we believe strongly in dismantling barriers to entry in the field of aviation.

Too often, students are unaware of the many career paths available beyond becoming a pilot, or they assume aviation careers are out of reach. Programs like AACT’s aviation academy play a critical role in changing that narrative. By introducing students to aviation early and providing access to training, credentials, and industry connections, this program empowers students to see themselves in these careers.

AACT’s new aviation academy is an important milestone for Northern Nevada and a powerful tool for expanding access to aviation education. By helping students explore multiple aviation career paths and graduate with valuable certifications such as a commercial drone pilot license, this program supports Pathways to Aviation’s mission of education, empowerment, and workforce development. We are proud to support this initiative and excited to see the future aviation professionals it will help inspire.
