January 2017 Bulletin

January 24, 2017

Pathways to Aviation ended the 2016 calendar year on an upbeat and 2017 is already better! We have big news for you in this bulletin, as well as invitations to help our mission of informing, inspiring, and engaging aviation’s next generation.

State of the City Day

Pathways to Aviation was named as one of the partners for the upcoming City of Reno State of the City Address, taking place on January 26, 2017. We’re excited to partner in this extraordinary event with Atlantic Aviation and the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. The public is invited to attend the event and may officially RSVP through the City of Reno’s event page (click here).

The details are as follows:
Thursday, January 26
5:30pm
Atlantic Aviation – 655 S. Rock Blvd.
Cost: free
RSVP

Upon notification of our involvement, we immediately contacted Atlantic Aviation to create an opportunity for local students to participate in a tour and presentation on aviation. Thanks to their excitement, we’re pleased to welcome students from Galena High School to participate in a special experience, as part of our newly created “Pathways Days” program.

Students will arrive at Atlantic Aviation to tour the facility, meet with Atlantic’s officials, and participate in a workshop presented by its general manager. Upon completion of the “education” portion of the day, students will greet the State of the City attendees and stay for Mayor Schieve’s address. There’s no doubt the students will walk away with new knowledge, fresh excitement, and many new connections.

Join us for an extraordinary event at Atlantic Aviation.

Nevada Aviation Careers Initiative

Planning for our new careers and mentoring program is underway. We’re busy recruiting both students and mentors to participate in the program.

The Nevada Aviation Careers Program provides career development resources to high school and college students interested in pursuing careers in the aviation industry. The program provides guidance and connections to those expressing interest in aviation careers. Students will be immersed in a structured program to guide through the career development spectrum, highlighted by:
– Reviewing and developing resumes;
– Matching with aviation experts, who are enlisting to provide mentoring guidance;
– Conducting career planning workshops;
– Hosting speaking engagements presented by aviation experts;
– Introducing to employment recruiters seeking career-ready talent;
– Conducting mock and practice interviews; and,
– Providing professional references for scholarships, college admissions, and job applications.

Are you a student and interested in this program to bring you closer to a career in aviation?
Are you a professional, who’s interested in providing college and/or aviation career advice?
